The company that creates CCleaner, Gen Digital, acknowledged in an email to its clients that hackers had taken advantage of their personal data, including names, phone numbers, and billing information.

Hackers exploited a security flaw in MOVEit, a file transfer program used by thousands of organizations worldwide to send massive volumes of data over the internet, according to Gen Digital.

The business has stated that the hack has not affected login credentials, credit card numbers, or banking information.

According to Jess Monney, a Gen Digital spokesperson who spoke with TechCrunch without providing specific numbers, the breach has impacted less than 2% of users.

Although the Clop ransomware has not listed CCleaner on its dark web website, the vulnerability allowed the ransomware to steal sensitive data from interconnected systems.

Although CCleaner does not disclose its user count, Gen Digital asserts that it has over 65 million paying customers globally.
